How to Effectively Lead and Manage Your Team – Part 2
Last week I provided you with my initial tips for effectively managing a team. If you missed that video, you can find it HERE. This week I am going to wrap up with my last three tips.
Learn from the Various Personalities on Your Team
Whether they are creating a positive and engaging interaction with consumers or working to educate them on the benefits of a particular product or service, try to pick up one positive thing from a teammate, highlight that trait, and implement it. It is also important to note that every EXP’s personality is different. Therefore, as a manager, it is important to work with your team to find viable solutions to problems. Now the outcome may not be one everyone agrees with, but you are there to ensure the consumer experience is not compromised and the event is successful. You can’t please everyone, so don’t try to!
Keep Logistics and Your Team’s Health a Top Priority
What are your lead capture goals for the event? How many consumers are you and your team expected to engage with during the event? Is everyone taking their allotted breaks for the day? Did you provide water to ensure everyone stays hydrated throughout the event? Being able to manage these tasks and have a plan B in place is essential.
Have a Team Meeting Post Event
What good is it to have a meeting prior to an event to set expectations if you do not follow up once the event is over? Having a short event debrief at the end of the event is important. This will give them the opportunity to provide any event feedback and offer any constructive criticism. As a manager and leader, you have to be willing and open to receiving it!
As a tour manager, you may not always make the right decision, so don’t beat yourself up about it. The key is not to consistently make the same mistakes. You may not have a degree, or even have went to college; however, you may have mastered the ability to troubleshoot issues at a moment’s notice and can identify an issue or horrible EXP. That’s the beauty of working in the Experiential Marketing industry, degrees and all the book smarts is not a determining factor to your success.
